We have a single storied house with 2 bedrooms( both with attached bath rooms)and drawing cum dining area. Now we are planning to construct first floor. while making the plan we wanted to make the rooms upstairs slightly bigger than their counterparts downstairs. Now our main concern is- if the walls of the rooms of the first floor are not built exactly on top of the existing walls of the ground floor rooms, will it in any way affect the integrity of the structure as a whole?( ie., there will not be any support (below) for the weight of the walls of the new bedrooms).
Can anyone give us a guidance in this matter.will there be any problem at all?

You can span some timber or timber and steel past the ground floor walls to form a cantilever, and this will enable a wider first floor room

Its easily done and structurally sound

Is this query about off-setting ground floor walls with first floor partitioning?
