We have received planning consent to extend over our existing garage on a detached house. Is it usually necessary to take down the garage to provide new footings?. Also, my husband will be doing most of the work with the exception of the bricklaying , roofing and plastering, therefore does anyone know estimated costs of doing it ourselves. ???

Our neighbours had this done. The garage was left up but underpinned, they built on top and extended the hopper roof over, it cost them £45,000 without them lifting a finger.

Wrong forum, but would depend on footing for garage , common to save money by have no foundation under the garage entrance ( no load there) so current foundations must be established .
