Anu thoughts on what would be the best, longest lasting exterior gloss paint to use on wood (probably whitecolour)?

It's got more to do with your prepping than the paint, and the age of the timber.

Any reputable make such as Johnstones/Leyland would be good, alternatively Dulux Weathershield, which if used with their undercoat is guaranteed for a number of years.

There are water-based exterior glosses available now, but I would play safe and stick with oil-based for outside work.

But the preparation is vital, as advised above.
