Exterior wood filler

I've heard the best filler for exterior timber is homemade; something like saw dust with linseed oil and glue - I think

Does anyone know the proper mix, or is it best to just buy it from the shop?

Buy some it will be much better. The homemade stuff is only useful for colour matching by using the sawdust you obviously get the same colour.
