Need to extend my exisiting cable run to my PIR light mounted 3m agl on the outside house wall.

1 Do the Regs require the 1mm pvc Twin and Eth cable to go in conduit?

2 Even if they don't is it a good idea to stop uv degradation of the cable?

3 Is the black round conduit and fixings waterproof against a heavy rain shower? What if the conduit fills with water on the horizontal run?

  1. Not explicitly, but you have to consider the fact that PVC cables will degrade under UV radiation, have limited ability to withstand knocks & scrapes, and basically are not meant to be used unprotected outside.

  2. Yes.

  3. Solvent welded stuff isn't too bad, but you should always have drain holes.

  4. Better to use a more suitable cable such as SWA, Hituf or MICC.

  5. Better still to keep all of the cables inside - no matter what cable or containment type you use outside nothing looks as good as nothing.
