After some advice guys.
Got an old house circa 1930's…it has external power cables running along the front of the house (these are insulated), just under the guttering. This power cable turns onto the gable where it splits and runs across the gap between me and the neighbour (uninsulated!). It aslo runs down the wall and into the house where the consumer unit lives so I am safely assuming its still live.

I want to get the house re-rendered and I need to get the cables shrouded.
Problem is NEDL electricity company (not the energy supplier) cannot tell me when it will be doone….some time in next 8 weeks!

I need renering doing before weather gets too bad so 8 weeks is too long.

Can I buy shrouding gear and do it or have it done by a 3rd party electrician? Point worth noting is father in law is a 40 year man in corus, shift engineer for whole site and is an electrician by trade so if we could buy the gear we could do it.

Ive seen these velcro plastic covered nylon blankets that get wrapped round the cables…can I buy these from somewhere?

No.

NEDL (or their subcontractors) are the olny people allowed to do this work.

I know it's annoying, but thats just the way it is.

Why didn't you ask them 8 weeks ago?

THATS A shame....
as for the timing. i wasnt even looking at this job 8 weeks ago.
the only real problem is the winter setting in.

think the safest option is to get NEDL on teh case and have it done by christmas...then have the render job done in spring.

ho hum, thats life i guess.
