In Spain, there are a few Veritas R8 alarms fitted down our street and what with various power cuts and old batteries in the panel, sometimes the external sounder goes off - usually in the middle of the night !!
Is is advisable to remove the batteries from the external sounder ? and will it still work ?

PS the houses are often empty (holiday homes) and the mains may fail due to RCD trip, or being cut-off due to none payment !! e.g. the mains fails or is cut-off during the day, alarm runs on battery for a few hours then in the middle of the night the external sounder goes off.

Do they have noise nuisance dept in the local council? as here? I'm sure they'd love to hear of your tale. ;)

I think they do - the more recent systems have a 15 min time out on the siren.
The alarm engineers (Brits) charge about €65 plus cost of battery to come out and put a new battery in.
