I have a 1920s home with soils wall..

The 1500cm opening above my kitchen has no external lintle. It seems to have. Very low arch.

The internal course is supported by a wooden lintle.

I want to ad a lintle to be safe however, I won't be able to get. 150mm heading. The maximum I can get is 100mm and thats even pushing it.

I'm concerned that stitch drilling the brick out will disturb the low arch.

Any suggestions?

If it is a shallow arch, it suggests that it was originally part of an opening in the rear wall, eg a door and adjoining narrow window?
Can you not leave the arch as it is? - they are intended to be self-supporting.
If you really feel you want to support it, a steel rectangular hollow section 100 x 60 laid flat would probably work on that span, but you would need to be really careful as to how you support the arch. Digging away at the ends for a bearing will not help. Arches work by compression and if you try to support it with Strongboys at any point, you can easily destabilize it.

Properly built arches are immensely strong. Let well alone unless there are signs of distress
