Thanks for the answer, I suppose what I should have asked was "can I, and how should I do it?".

I am intending this to come from the upstairs lighting circuit.

Your link is talking about using data cables, so you would need some other control unit for the shower fan & I would suspect that the only people who may be able to give you info would be the manufacturers, as modifying there equipment or using it in a different way would probably void the warranty
