Hi,

I need to install a small extractor fan (100mm with a timer).

I've a small low ceiling cloakroom (with a shower & toilet) downstairs with a small opening window on 1 wall at the top (end to end of the wall). Unfortunately, this is the only wall where the fan can be installed. (there is no possibility in the roof or other 3 walls).

So can it go on the double glazed window glass (mostly open in summer), tend to keep it closed for winter?

I am thinking of wiring it with the light (600mm away).

Is it OK to install a fan on an opening window?

What type of drill would I need to cut through the glass (100mm diamond)?

Any 100mm fans that you would recommend to on these moving windows please?

Thanks in advance..

Do you really need a fan ? You could put in a trickle vent or air brick.
Or put the fan through the wall rather than the window ?

Anyway,
If you cut the glass you will not be able to seal it again.
You need to get a new sealed unit made to fit with a hole cut out to take the extractor fan.
I've never seen a fan in an opening window but I cannot see why not.

The glass will shatter.

Can you not put the fan through the wall next to the window?

Do you really need a fan in a room with a window?

The window is end to end, there is no wall next to window. The only place is underneath the window which is all tiled along with the rest of bathroom.

Not sure if it would look good in the wall underneath the window!!

It needs to be high up!

Can you go through the ceiling then thru the wall with a length of flexi?

Hi Alistair.

Sorry I can't go through ceiling.

This bathroom along with some ground floor landing area are protruding out of house with a thin flat roof of their own.
