Extractor fan was working but not anymore..

Hi,

The fan was working but I took it out to clean the pipe as water was coming through.

After cleaning everything, I put the things back as they were (not quiet) as one of the middle wire was touching the neutral after fitting.

Then I turned on the breaker, and turned on the bathroom light and BANG... a little spark and Breaker down.

Next thing is i realised the mistake and corrected it, but the FAN donot work anymore..

Any clues, is it PCB gone? are there any fuse (as i cant see any) or something else?

I can still see voltage going down all the way to the fan, but no action.

I would appreciate responses, and anyway it can be repaired.

The extractor is Aspira Simplex Timer.

How are you determining that there is voltage?
Are you using a test meter or a two probe voltage indicator, or a neon screwdriver?
Have you ELECTRICALLY tested that the neutral is there and is connected?
Have you ELECTRICALLY tested that the PERMANENT LIVE is there and is connected?
Have you ELECTRICALLY tested that the SWITCHED LIVE is there and is connected?
 
I used neon screwdriver and it shows the light. i have not used volt meter.

I have tested the 2 live wires red n yellow going into fan. They both are live.

The third one is blue n i think its neutral.

Can you please explain me how to check them electrically ? Please

A neon tester is not an approved instrument to test for voltage and give misguiding information, which could lead to potential dangers.
You need a two probe approved voltage tester, to perform the correct tests.
This function is normally standard on a multi-meter.
Also continuity of the conductors can be confirmed.
To test you will need will require to be done with light on and off.
Using the two probes of voltage tester.
Red-Neutral
Yellow-Neutral
Yellow-Earth
Red-Earth
Neutral-Earth

If it was a PCB, then testing across live and neutral, would help determine if the power is flowing through the circuit board.
There is also likely a glass slow blowing fuse connected across the PCB, this may have blown.
This can often be removed and continuity tested across that.

I had measured the resistance across this fule like register and it showing me 1, every other resister shows some other value.

Not sure if i can change this though, any clues?

Sheesh!

You need some new leads.

You are holding a (presumably) live PCB with bare hands.

You're not testing for voltage in the correct place.

The PCB looks decidedly cooked.
 
Just tried something. Wen i give nuetral directly from socket the fan works, when i give neutral from pcb, both wire live n fandont work.

Can i still use pcb for live and give nutral directly to fan bypassing pcb ?
 
Hey Thanks all for your helpful comments, needs to be careful next time, but looks like the PCB is short, and the the problem is neutral is not being passed.

So i cut out the PCB out, that would leave my timing delay, but got the fan working so a bit relief in the end, need to get a new one and get some guy to install, next thing to do :))
