Should wall mounted extractor fans use ducting?

I have an extractor fan in my downstairs toilet and the kitchen but I noticed there is no ducting between the inside fan and the grill on the outside.

There is a ducting shaped hole behind each fan.

Not sure if this is an issue with regard to moisture etc.

Thanks

We sleeve our cut-outs with 110mm drain pipe.

Seems like a good idea as well!

I am a bit concerned there is a reason for no ducting, like the hole was messed up. A metre of 100m pvc is cheap so it's worth a go.

Looking at the kitchen one the outside grill looks mounted a bit too low, hopefully there is a bit of adjustment on it.

I've always done that, it's cheap and easy. But some of the fans I have recently bought have a spigot too large to fit inside. I had to slit one with a multicutter to get it in.

Don't worry too much about the holes being misaligned, pvc ducting can be warmed up a bit with a heat gun, to help it conform.

The spigot travel is small or is easily removed
