A friend asked me today if it was legitimate to use a tumble dryer condensing kit in the loft attached to an in-line ceiling extractor instead of venting outside. I have to be honest, I did not know the answer & told him to ask BCO but after giving it some thought I presume they have a BS number & if he is prepared to keep emptying the box, then there is no real reason why he should not, as a tumble dryer will give off more steam than a bathroom. Has anyone heard of this before?

I agree. What a daft idea. It might be difficult to knock a hole in a wall but well worth the effort. Even a hose out the window would be better!
Otherwise it seems pointless trying to (inefficiently) gather all the steam in a room with a ceiling extractor and then condense it in the roofspace with all the bother of emptying it. A properly fitted vent and hose will soon take the steam straight from machine to the outside world.

and if he is supposed to be complying with Mechanical Means of Ventilation then ventilation is what he has not got.

He will soon give up emptying the condensate, and his steamy pipes will fill up with mould.

Thanks John that is something I would not have thought of, mould due to lack of ventilation in the pipe.
