I have moved into a house with no extractor hood over the stove. The stove is in the middle of the kitchen and does not back onto an exterior wall. How would I go about installing a hood without taking the ceiling down? Could I box off the hose that takes the fumes outside?

Only my opinion mate but I think recirculating cooker hoods are a waste of time and I wouldn't use one....you can buy rectangular ducting from the likes of Screwfix that may give you a tidier solution to this one. John :)

Recycling hoods no longer comply with regs for kitchen fitting, has to be vented externally, check ceiling joist direction you may be able to run thru ceiling void?

Was about to post on just this topic, but someone's already started one. Handy :)

Couple of q's:

1) If recycling hoods don't comply with regs that means, presumably, hoods like this can't be sold in this country?

They make no mention of such restrictions, even on UK retail websites...

2) Would this be sufficient to vent *any* cooker hood? Thing is, I'm in the position right now of needing to put in a couple of roof slates (to cover the hole made by removing a chimney stack). Unfortunately the picture is not all that clear, and there are no instructions. I've not chosen a cooker hood yet, so need something that I can adapt to any.

Thanks
