I’ve got one of these in my Kitchen and it’s a currently operated from a dedicated switch. This means that it’s rarely used.

As I’m redoing the kitchen I thought it would make sense to have this operating with the lights near the stove.

Would it be okay to take a cable from one of my lights and power this from that and do away with its switch?

I did test it with a length of cable and it appears to work. Wanted to check on whether it’s an appropriate way of doing this.

    Thanks in advance

Surely, it's not a very good idea to have it running with the lights.

These lights are above the hob and are generally used during cooking? We have separate lights for the rest of the kitchen.

Is it a safe and acceptable way of wiring this?
    Thanks for your help.

    It’s acceptable.
Is it safe? That’s entirely up to your competence.

    Is it advisable?
When I’m cooking the last thing I want is a noisy fan going all the time. I’d want to switch it on when it’s needed.
