Piddling down in Luton.....anyway, the flue to my Glowworm 24ci wall hung boiler exits the brickwall through its little hole. This hole is somewhat smaller than the previous boilers large square hole. The size difference has been `made good` with sand/cement. Problem is that the sand/cement against brickwork (outside wall) is as appealing to the eye as Dot Cotton. Any ideas on making this more prettier ?

Yes, stopped now Breezer.

I was thinking of some sort of stainless steel plate that goes round the flue, if they exist.

Luton losing at footy.

Maybe just pebble dash the entire house, that will blend it in :o

Or even that stone cladding stuff....lovely

Or just leave it and go for a pint

Crap workmanship. Best to brick up old hole with gobbo made from quick drying cement and core drill for new boiler next day, hence makes it a two day job. Not much you can do now except take out flue, knock out cement, brick it up, and drill new hole. May save flue, may need another one. Otherwise live with it.

I don't usually have any problem finding similar bricks to the old ones scouting the merchants. I just clean the hole up square and put in half bricks as required. It looks pretty good.

However last boiler I fitted in top flat of a block of 3, BG had fitted a boiler in the flat below just the week before. I stood agast, the fitter had knocked back to the nearest complete brick and somehow found a perfectly matching set of bricks. You couldn't even tell he'd been if you weren't in the trade and looking for the old square hole.

My job wasn't up to that standard, not least because I was another 10 ft up the ladder than he would have been.

However my customer got a top quality boiler and unvented cylinder. Meanwhile the flat downstairs is still watching hot water trickle into the bath. Actually I was surprised he didn't change the cylinder because they don't conform.
