Hello. I know what an f76 code means, thermal link on h/ex failed. Let me ask why!! Surely low water content fault codes should appear first. Why should this link go. I have seen low water content or dry fire codes which is easily remeded. So why would a link just go. Vaillant were very sketchy as to why, especially when i mentioned other codes...Any theories gladly excepted......Thankyou

have you checked the wiring properly? especially the plug to the right of the heat exchanger.

I have not come across one of these yet. I expect the staff engineers do though and hopefully will come up with some common reasons.

Overheating due to incorrect power input?

Lack of water flow?

The HE metal is so thin and has very little heat capacity and can overheat in a second or two!

Fixed one of these just the other day.

It was intermittent connection on white two pin plug, usually cable tied to the right hand side of heat exchanger.

The thermal fuse can be checked by separating this connector and checking for continuity of the sensor. If this is OK it's a simple wiring fault. In my case I adjusted the connector pins with some pliers to give a better contact, job done.

If the thermal fuse has gone (never seen this happen) it is time for a new heat exchanger........

I have only seen it once on thousands, as others said its usually the white plug loose connections, if it has gone then new ht exch mate

Seen the thermal fuse linked out on these before  only once though.

Does anyone know exactly what damage occurs when the thermal fuse blows?
