Fabio Capello

i agree its a team effort, but look at how some of the managers in teh past have dealt with the team, Theyve had egos as big as the team members if not bigger sometimes.

In this day and age its about money and supply and demand. You want a good manager then you have to pay the going rate. Win a major competition and the revenue generated for the national game is immense. When you look at it what english candidates did we have that were viable either from a proficency or moral (redknapp, alladyce etc) point of view?

Capello stands no nonsense and knows how to win and deal with players. Sometimes a differnt mindset is needed. Look at gus hiddink with the south koreans. I hope he can make the transition from club to international.

Or to put it this way if we were to win the next world cup, how many people would moan we didnt have an english manager?

the trouble with english managers is that they only manage in english football.the two most successful english managers of recent times both managed abroad coincidently.(venables + robson).no top english managers in champions league so it's a big ask to get a manager to step up from domestic football to a different type of managing and be succesful straight away.on a similar vein, when people start talking about quotas to get young english players playing in the prem it's just not needed.they should be encouraged to get a game abroad why do we have no players playing on the continent? The prem is the top league in europe or one of the top,you would expect there to be les representation the higher up the tree you go.however the championship isn't the next best league france ,germany, holland? This lack of continental football which other countries players have may also give other nations an edge with their players able to adapt to different playing styles more easily.

You only have to look at the Premier League to see what the problem is.

The English players are grafters, runners, tacklers, etc. The skill players are all imports.

You couldn't pick a decent team out of that lot regardless of who you are and what you are being paid.

It's the skill players that are lacking. The type of player that can unlock a defence. All the English can do is resort to route 1 - the long ball and hope to get lucky.

It'll be decades before we can field a decent team - but with all the imports coming in - where are the kids going to get a chance?

Part of the problem is not only enough english players in teh premiership, but also not enough decent players playing abroad.

look at a few years ago, the likes of waddle, wilkins, lineker, keegan, hoddle, ince, etc, all gaining valuable experiance abroad. Very rare these days.

thats not the reason, no decent englishman wants to play in most teams in europe. the premiership is the place to play in, and dont forget to play for a "2nd" rate spanish / italian team you get paid still less than the "2nd" rate teams here. also interesing choice of " star " players
