Hi All

Which makes and model of face masks are effective and reliable (last long time)? I am especially looking for masks for protection from asbestos dust because I will be working a lot in the loft for clearing and flooring.

Thanks

Are you going to disturb the asbestos?
If so, it's not just a matter of wearing a mask, there's lots of other precautions to take.
Best to leave to the professionals.
If you're not disturbing the asbestos and you know where it is, you can make it safer by painting/sealing it and of course stick a note on it for future reference.

I'm wondering if there's a substance confusion? - Why is it that you think there's asbestos in your loft?
I thought that too. Fibreglass asbestos mixup.
I used to use the paper masks but moved to the JSP force 8 p3 mask and its litera breath of fresh air

It is just for precautions on accidental disturbance of asbestos while working in the loft.
I am not an expert in this area but I think what we are saying is that there should not be any asbestos in the loft ?? and if there were then its a specialist job.
You will also appreciate airtight googles as the fibreglass will irritate your eyes

I don't know if there is asbestos in the loft either. But I read that there is definitely possibility of being asbestos in the houses built pre 1990. Our house is from 1940-1950s, and I am presuming there is likely to be asbestos somewhere in the loft or walls. Therefore it would be a good idea to use masks which has protection on not just dust but also asbestos just for precaution.

Of course, if all asbestos is to be removed from the loft when it is definitely found to be existing, then it should be delegated to the professionals.
But my idea was, even just clearing and working in the loft, it would be good practice to use mask which offers maximum protection from all possibilities.

I really think that's a false presumption, to be honest - the contamination might be in what you've been reading, not what's in the loft!

Asbestos.
Guys I see have fully electric filter mask with battery pack and wear a standard mask under.
