There are so few of them and it's so expensive defending and subsidising them we could give every one of them a million pounds, resettle them in Hull and break even in less than 30 years.

The Falklands are self sufficient and we trade with them on a better deal in our favour. It costs us £60 million per anum on military defence. So economically it isnt a big drain. on the UK, look at the bill for illegal immigrants we have, not sure about them coming to Hull, it would be quite a culture shock I would expect plus the language barrier is always a problem.

Just like the clearances in Scotland? And Hong Kong island was not leased, only the mainland was leased.

Yes, because

The people of the Falklands want it to remain a British territory

And apparently we forced China to ceed it to us in perpetuity in 1840 something. We then realised keeping it wasn't going to work and arranged a phased handover with the 99 year lease.

As far as I know Argentina never owned the Falklands in the first place.
Argentina itself is country built by immigrants from Europe.
They was never an indigenous Argentinian population on the Islands which are 100's of miles from South America anyway.
