Don't know much about roofing,
But here's the shed i'm building that currently has a waterproof base-layer and is awaiting a protective grit layer.

How bad an idea would it be to put false grass on instead of this grit layer?

Let the mocking commence.

Artificial grass will look far better than grit.

We have done quite a few rubber roofs with A/G on, we used Firestones silicone on the edges, leave spaces for water drainage.

Good to hear it's been done before,

You mention leaving spaces for water drainage - how do you tend to do this?
I tested a sample (under the tap) at the same low pitch angle as my shed roof and was impressed at how much went across the top surface of the base layer rather than through the drainage holes, probably a good 90%,

The underside is slighty raised (a few mm) due to the fold of the pile but should I add some battons to raise and better the flow, or may the few mm suffice?

What kind of problems would I get if I just sat it on the polymer waterproof layer I've already applied?
I assume I may get some slimy residue underneath so I'd maybe need to lift and clean once a year? (or just shampoo the grass!)

Your thoughts much appreciated.
