Hi

I'm looking to connect a condensation trap, from an inline extractor fan ducting, to a nearby soil pipe in the loft. I want to avoid any gasses moving back through to system when the fan isn't being used so this has got me thinking.

1. Can a soil stack be used for this purpose?

2. If so, should the set-up also include a non-return valve to stop gas escaping the soil pipe? Any suggestions on what valve to use?

3. If temperatures are very low how do I prevent the condensation trap and outlet pipe from freezing?

Thanks

If it's in the loft I wouldn't worry too much about freeing, is the soil pipe open vented? What size is the condensate pipe, 21.5mm? You could use a non return valve yes.

Yes it's a newish build with good insulation and the soil stack runs up through the loft to the roof. The ducting was getting a bit wet during colder spells and was dripping out the old fan. I've got a much more powerful inline fan fitted but want to add a condensation trap as a backup. The trap needs a run off so the nearby soil stack seemed an obvious choice. What sort of non return valve should a plumber be fitting to stop any soil pipe smells getting through? Thanks

If it's condensate/overflow pipe @21.5mm then a McAlpine Tun1 could be used
