Hi

Ive been reading through some of your postsrelating to engine fault codes and people have purchased 'elmscan5' whatever that is and an engine fault code reader, surely people dont have any reason to buy these tools other then to look at the 1 fault on their engine and the money sent is surely a waste, it may as well take a trip to the garage?

Am i right in saying that elmscan5 is software then you plug your laptop into the engine? Does it work for all engines?

Yes, the elmscan5 reads the codes from the ecu.
and yes, if you only have 1 car to use it on and use it once, then it's not worth £110.
There is no guarantee it will work on every car, but most after 2002 will work fine.
Ive used mine on vauxhalls, VW's and ford's all between 1996 and 2000 and it's been fine every time.
