faulty dimmer

I recently replaced a blown capsule bulb,one of 3 in a bathroom fitting. now the dimmer won't work.it switches on and off but won't dim.
Any ideas,any way of testing it? Thanks,Paul :

Were they mains or low voltage capsule lamps?

It is not unknown for a failing lamp to destroy the triac in the dimmer rendering the switch unusable.

Mains lamp,one of six on two fittings,can I test the switch with a multimeter (if I knew how to work it!!)

You need to use fused lamps in order to prevent the dimmer toasting itself.
