Mum's in a high rise. So the main door in/out of her apartment is inside, leading to/from the communal area on that floor. Her apartment is privately owned in a block that's a mixture of private/council residents.

She needs a new main door and legislation dictates it now needs to be FD60 rated, not FD30. Please just take this as read :)

The local council can fit an FD60 door however it's very basic/utilitarian in appearance. Mum's not keen on it. I thought I'd found a solution with these folk however they don't supply to the public:

To give you a point of reference, mum likes FED03 style in the above link. Although not the same, the council offering is more along the lines of FED16.

When it comes to FD30 doors, it's relatively easy to find suppliers that offer doors that are more decorative in appearance. However when it comes to FD60, this isn't the case. I've been Googling and have found one or two more suppliers that do offer a decent variety, however judging by their websites I suspect they're also non public like Sentry.

I appreciate it's a long shot, however does anyone on here know of any suppliers of FD60 doors, more decorative in nature, that supply one off doors to the public?

Bowater Doors do 60min doors like that I think but I don't think they sell direct to the public, you would have to buy it through one of their retailers.

It's a shame J&K isn't around no more; F. doors were a speciality of his...have you done a search of the site in regard to them?

Cheers, I'll drop them a mail to ask if they have any retailers all the way up here in bonnie Scotland :)

Have you asked the council if they'll allow a tenant to choose their own door?

Your mum's a leaseholder. She doesn't own any part of the fabric of the building, she has bought a lease, which is basically a block of pre-paid rent for 99 years or whatever, she's a tenant in a building that's fully owned by the council.

The door works two ways - the council have an interest in protecting their building and other tenants, from a fire that starts in your mum's flat. I realise you're only looking at FD60 rated doors, but then you've got all the risk of who's fitting it, what frame, fittings etc. An FD60 door mounted on Temu hinges isn't going to protect anyone, they'll need assurance that it's all being done to their spec.

There's a good chance you could waste a load of time and money on buying one, then the council just say no to you, or remove yours and replace it with their standard one.

Honestly I'd completely understand them saying no, and they're quite within their rights as the freehold owner of the building.

Even if you bought another, your mum would probably still need to contribute proportionally to the overall cost of replacing all the others, so she'd end up paying twice.

I'd suggest just going along with their plan. It's only a door.

Seeing as this thread has been resurrected, an update for you.

We ended up opting for the council supplied door in the colour of mum's choice. It looks fine.

Not leasehold up here, heritable title.

Over recent years, some have got FD30 doors installed. It's going to be interesting times for them because there's another fire review being conducted this year and apparently, anyone with a door that isn't compliant will be instructed to get it replaced and if they don't comply within a given timescale, a replacement door will be installed whether the resident wants to proceed or not.
