Intergral garage has flat roof,felt seems sound the only problem is the chippings on the felt keep on blowing of/filling gutter is there a option to fix this?
More than prepared to remove all chippings and start again..

Filling the gutter or just an inconvenient few that can get cleaned out during the annual post-autumn clean?

The chippings are meant to be bonded but only a small percentage actually are.

So sounds like remove chippings and rebond,would rather make chippings go away
Is there a decent gooey treatment i can put on the felt for added protection..

Chips have purposes. They stop the heat/cold from getting through to the felt therefore stopping the expansion cycle therefore extending the felt life span. They were more used on the old fashioned brittle and non stretchy British Standard felts. However I personally feel that the window cleaner's feet will cause more damage pressing chips through the felt.

They are also a fire rating. ie in theory if a burning ember from next door's flaming house lands on your chipped roof it won't set it on fire. I personally feel that your house is probably going up anyway in that scenario.

That being said, most modern felt roofs are done using polyester based stretchy felts, and aren't finished in chips any more, and nobody seems to bother about the fire rating. So if you'd like to keep the chips for the above reasons, or due to looks, then you could remove the chips, apply chipping compound and put them back on. Cold chipping compund should be available at any decent roofing supplier. Beware that some chips will still end up in your gutter tho.

Or you could remove the chips and, assuming the surface is clean and sound, you could paint on a bitumenous solar reflective paint. This does a fairly good job of protecting the felt from the elements and lasts a good few years before requiring a recoat. It's also pretty tidy looking, as it covers any untidy lap edges etc. It's also available from a decent roofing supplier.
