i need to put a 6 ft fence on a 9 inch brick wall ,the wall is 1 course of blocks high with a engineering brick on top whats the best way to fix the post ?
I agree with Freddy, you would have been best to plan this and posts will not be strong enough attached to the top of the wall. The only way I can think is to dig holes alongside the wall, it will mean cutting carefully through the foundation, concrete in posts hard against the wall and fit your fence to those posts once all the concrete is hard.
6 feet is optomostic but I've seen it done with smaller open fences. You can put a timber on top of the wall like a wall plate and fix it down with all thread resined into the brickwork at least 600mm . The posts are then tenoned into the wall plate. If it is possible to have pilliars or braces off the fence to another structure then you may stand a chance.
That said it's not the best option and I think a six footer is likely to suffer wind problems.
