On a lot of my dads fence panels the top corners have rotted as you can see in the image below. What is the best solution to this, splice a new piece in or replace the whole cross member?
Obviously will replace the cap peice.
i repair all my lap larch panels and some are now 35 years old repairing with 2x1 tile batons chamfered for caps [so 3x thicker and stronger than provided]and 19x38mm for others
now here is the point it saves the planet but you need to keep replacing full lengths as you cant just splice in a bit in you also need the tools and its generally cheaper to buy a new panel as every removed timber requires an oscillating saw through every nail so blades and timber
and a points off note whilst timber is metric panels are imperial so your replacement timber for 1830mm panel has to be a 2.1m or to get 2 from 1 3.9m
