We have 4" fence posts going around our garden, that are set in concrete. In between the fence is made up of vertical strips of wood, the height of the fence with gaps in between.

I've noticed 2 or 3 fence posts rotted at the base (where they leave the concrete). One has completely snapped, and is simply perched on top of the broken bit, the others look rotted, and ready to snap. The fence can now lean from side to side! Other than the posts everything else seems fine.

I'm wondering what to do....

Can/should I get just the posts replaced?
Someone mentioned spikes I can buy to fit the top part of the rotted post into the rotted wood base. Is this an option?
Or am I looking at a new fence (I really hope not :()

Ah, wooden posts. You will probably have to break up and dig out the concrete lump, or else put in a new post in the gap.

When you have dealt with this, you might be ready to resolve only to use concrete posts in future.

Thanks for the replies :)

Whilst going against the (DIY) nature of these forums, if I chicken out to get the professionals in, is this a job for a builder or a fencer?
