My nanna has a Optima 700 serial number 005693 and was installed in 1994.

At first I thought it needed re preassuring which I did thanks to this site. But it still wont light. I called out an engineer in the end who said that he was not sure what was wrong and the thermacouple was fine. He siad it was not even sparking whatever that means. He said he did not want to start buying parts when he did not know for sure what was wrong. He said I should call a combi boiler expert?

I am so stuck as we dont ahve that mush money can anyone possibly help?

Thanks so much

did he check the boiler stat/over heat stat and air pressure switch/thermistor(s) were OK?
is the flueway/terminal blocked at all?

Im not sure Ill ask my dad who is due in from work. He mentioned the name of a part that may have gone? Ill check and get back to you. He was there for over an hour so i hope he looked at most things

The PCB on this boiler does look as if it is damaged (around two bigger resistors). But that does not mean it should be replaced.

PCB has a row of lights. These should be looked at to see what LEDs are glowing which will then assist in locating boiler problem. You may want to get the same guy out to check these.

Do admire the guy who walked away as he had courage to admit defeat- lot would have started throwing parts at the boiler.

have you got the boiler manual? if so.... give it to the engineer/plumber and he can then diagnose the fault properley anway

I also hope that he did not have the cheek to try to make any charge for his inability to find thre fault!

I wonder if he manually lit the pilot to see if it then worked. I think these may have a permanent pilot but you hold in the gas knob to make it spark and then let go 30 seconds later.

Right he said that it may be sender unit?

He tried to hold the switch in for 30 seconds to ignite the piolot light but nothing happened - no clicking nose like it use to make

I dont have to manual

Do you think I should get someone else out?

Its probably just the switch on the gas valve but it may be the spark generator.

I am surprised he did not light it manually to see if that was the only fault. It might have kept the boiler going for a few weeks!

You need a proper boiler engineer.

switch on the gas valve??? do you mean where the igniter connects ? never heard of a switch on a gas valve?

Run the boiler in HW mode, press the gas valve knob and hold it in. Pilot should light. Keep it pressed for count of 10 and then let release the knob. Pilot should stay alight if this area of circuit functional. While aforementioned is from memory (not good) might be an idea to await arrival of a knowledgeable engineer near you.

Your area of abode might prompt a regular on these pages to contact you to get your boiler operational again. Do show the boiler changers the door.
