Ferroli Optimal HE plus 18OV heat only boiler

Evening all, I suspect the PCB is shot but any advice would be appreciated. Had a leak on this boiler, the rubber pipe burst on heat exchanger, was working ok before but now the led display is dead. Power to the PCB is ok, seems like power out to certain parts like gas valve etc is there but not for other components. Not my intention to interfere with anything gas wise just electrical, not a spark but know my way around a multimeter. Does anyone else agree that PCB is shot or no what tests I could carry out, electrical wise?

Hard to assess the damage to other components until the original leak is sorted and everything electrical inside the boiler is bone-dry.

Sometimes you get lucky, other times....

Hi, thanks for reply. Everything has dried out, it's been a couple of days now. Still dead. Just picked up used board & display so will see how it goes.

Use a hairdryer on the origional board and get everything warm and it might come back to life , if you fit another board you will need a GSR to reset and test it for you, guessing its an Optimax and not an Optimal

This boiler along with the domi range pretty much sunk the company in the UK.

Runner hoses do not belong in a boiler

Apparently the bluehelix boiler is meant to be alright but no one's got the cahoonies to fit one.

Hi, thanks all for advice so far, Ianmcd, yes sorry I misspelled Optimax, are you saying I need a registered gas fitter to fit this? I thought it was just a case of swapping like for like?

A gas safe registered bod will have the skills and equipment to test the boiler for safe operation on completing a repair (and indeed is legally required to so do).

once new pcb is installed the combustion levels need to be set up, you cant do this yourself sorry

Thanks all for advice, let you know how I get on. Probably fit it then get engineer in with GFA. It's my own boiler & I'm an ex gas fitter no longer registered & I don't own one. Let you know how I get on.

Update: got second hand PCB for 40 quid. Fitted it, bit fiddly, got my m8 in who is registered gas fitter to do all the necessary analysis with fga, we are now nice & toasty & might go wild & take a hot shower. Cheers all. On a side note: can ex gas chappies get into combustion chamber if no longer registered but can prove qualifications, ie: City n Guilds, old Gas Safe reg number?

Yes,I don’t know how it works, but it’s for retired engineers as well.
