Hi

I am doing a bit off fault finding for my homework and have come up with the fllowing problems / symptoms that may occur. are these correct/have i missed any out? any help i would be thankful for. thank you for any help.

Pump fault:

making loud whining noises
virbrating more than usual
no hot water/heating downsatirs - h/w and heating only lukewarm upstairs (by convection currents)

Motorized Valve failure:

spindle seized up / stuck : so jammed in one position / closed (if 2 port)
motor burnt out

cold water cistern overflowing:

ball valve washer/diaphragm leaking water/worn
ball itself has a hole in it and is failig to raise and close off

feed & expansion cistern overflowng:

ball valve asher/diaphragm leaking water/worn
ball itself has a hole in it and is failing to raise and close off
hole in hot water cylinder coil (if feed tank is LOWER than cold water tank)

one tap not working at all/poor flow rate:

washer split/stuck in tap seating
high pressure taps on low pressure system
airlock in pipework to tap

WC not flushing:

diapragm in siphon split/worn
wire link missing/disconnected from flush handle linkage

reason why a pump may be making strange noises is due to air being sucked in through it (cavitation) - possibly by a blockage somewhere in the system allowing air to be drawn down the cold feed/vent.

Cold water storage overflowing :-

Check valve on mixer tap or shower mixer faulty or not fitted.
Incorrect connection of washing machine or other appliance allowing mains pressure water to backfeed gravity hot water system.

by mixer/shower valve do you mean with maisn fed cold and low pressure hot water, thus the mains pressure pushing the hot water back into the cylinder and back up the old feed into the cold water cistern?
