Fiat 500 poor radio reception

Got asked today what would cause the reception to deteriorate when the car passes hedges or obstructions by the road.

Only thing I can think off is weak signal getting to the radio because of corroded aerial connections or perhaps the radio's PCB components are failing.

Any ideas?

They are very common for the base and the aerial wire to the head unit to go bad.

A new Ariel and base and new cable to the head unit seems to be the go to fix.

The parts are cheap and there are a lot of people selling them.

The pain in the bum is having to remove the headlining
