Fiesta starter problem

Please HELP anyone, it's a 51 plate fiesta 1.3 (basic) when u turn key 2 start it cranks over but does not fire up. U have 2 keep holding the key 2 on position till eventually it will start, in the meantime however, all the instruments on the dash are going haywire ?????? Starter has been taken off and cleaned up,ring gear seems fine also the battery has a good voltage. Anybody had a problem like this and had it rectified. Would b very grateful 4 any help !

It's not a starter problem then! Tried changing plugs and leads? Checked that all the electrical connections in the engine bay are clean and tight - especially the ones to do with the electronic ignition on this engine (HCS lump, same as the KaKa)

Take the plugs out . Re couple them to the leads with the plug body touching metal they should be seen to spark when cranked over.
