with my netbook having no optical drive,i transfered "autoroute" onto a usb stick from my other computer onto my netbook,which i did onto the desktop,it does open up.But it's only showing the build...how do i make the application run.

You can do as much, probably more, with Google Earth.
Using 'Directions from here' and 'Directions to here'
You may need to stick a 'pin' in either or both start and destination points.
It will fly you down the route - If you wish.
Turn by turn printable instructions too.
BTW Have found the GE Lat and Longitudes for a point - bang on using Sat-Nav.
