i have just filled and sanded the walls of my house as best as i could! the filler is raised from the srface still, unless i spend the next 3 years sanding theres not much i can do (I overfilled i guess!) will 2-3 coats of paint disguise the slight raised lumps?

Many thanks

Did you use ready mixed filler by any chance?

It sets like cooncrete..

you end up sanding a big ring around it if its on bare/soft plaster..

The polycell one is really bad

what filler do yo recommend?

Polyfilla..or if your talking about a large area...easi-fil

To reduce the level, a paint-scraper is quicker than sandpaper and will leave a nice smooth surface.

Filling cracks, chases and little holes is actually better IMO with a small amount of finish plaster, and a flat filling knife. It will scrape smooth very easily. Using a trowel takes a bit of practice.
