Filling gaps where old wall meets new ceiling?

The gaps are about an inch deep and there is wood at the back. Should I screw plaster board to the wood then some rough plaster to bring it level with the old stuff before it gets skimmed?

The edit went a bit wrong.

I suggested doubling up the plasterboard and skimming over that, if the depth of existing plaster allows for it.

I'm in a similar situation, had a plasterer round today and he said to fill the gaps with bonding plaster to flush and he'd then skim over along with the rest of the walls. And ceilings.
