Filling in old wall plug holes

Hi

Just replacing curtain pole. Need to reposition, so have to fill in two holes. What’s the best filler/sealant to use in these circumstances?

Ordinary plaster filler has always worked for me, but the optimum medium might depend on the material and finish of the wall.
