On a filling loop, which way do I position the tap to prevent water flowing into the boiler?

ie: parallell to the pipe (pressurising the boiler?), or at right angle to the pipe (mains supply is off and boiler is not being pressurised?)

right angles to the pipe
if you are not naughty and leave the loop on you will soon know
