Government eases sewage discharge rules amid chemical shortage
Wastewater plants told they may dispose of sewage that has not been fully treated due to Brexit disruption

Sewage treatment chemicals have been added to the growing list of products in short supply because of the UK’s chronic lorry driver shortage, it has emerged.

The government has told wastewater plants they may be able to discharge effluent that had not been fully treated because of disruption caused by “supply chain failure”.

They discharged sewage 400,000 times last year, nothing new. Surprises me to see people swimming in our rivers. Well they do say ignorance is bliss,if only they knew.

Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza hotels are now complaining that they can't get chambermaid staff and there are shortages of towels and bed linen because commercial laundries are are short staffed. Hotels and laundries rely on large numbers of EE workers, and they are unable to change beds as often as they used to. Shortages of HGV drivers are also hampering deliveries of clean linen.
