Cal Crutchlow Moto Gp, he qualified 2nd on a non works bike! and Scot Redding also qualified 2nd but his engine was down on power, every Tom Dick and Manuel was overtaking him along the straight.

I feel for any guys down on power but up on skill its sooooo frustrating.

I used to qualify really well when racing karts always in the top five of a field of thirty plus . But even when on Pole position I knew when the flag dropped I would lose four or five places into the first corner then have to battle back up to third or second.
Combination of being 13 stone as opposed to 10 stone and not being able to spend £1000 between meets on an engine tune and new slicks. Self fettled engine and slicks lasting three meets meant I was giving away .3 secs a lap. Still massively enjoyed my racing though. As long as I finished what I considered to be the 'best of the rest' I was happy (The rest being the other self financing ones like myself who didnt put new slicks on for each Heat of a days karting.)

And I thought karting was a low cost form of racing.

You are joking. . I did it on a shoe string and a season cost 5k excluding buying the kart.

That is as cheap as it gets with just one engine rebuild per season and slicks lasting two meetings.
Going back 10 years when first started some people at my club who also did national races were spending 65k a season.

There is a saying in motorsport.

How do you make a small fortune in motor racing?

Start with a big one.
