Finishing end edges of parapet wall

Happy New Year to all!
We've got scaffolding up at the moment to sort out problems with our flashing up to our parapet.. while up there I noticed that the end of the parapet wall is finished very strangely above the fascia board (i.e. there i just a big gap there between ours and the neighbours.

I hope the picture below shows what I mean. Is this likely to cause any problems? Any idea how it should be finished off?

Cut a channel in the wall above the gutter and insert a lead apron which will run into the gutter.
