Has anyone else had a problem with Fired Earth Gloss paint in the colour Carragheen. We bought this paint a couple of years ago - it was a rich ribena colour. Now a couple of years later we're doing a follow-up project and bought supposedly the same paint - the colour is now like ribena diluted with milk!

Its not the paint as such (albeit a bit of a rip off IMO) its the colour..some are pretty unstable..

Has it gone powdery/chalkie to the touch?...did you thin it out when you put it on?

No its not gone powdery or chalky. We didn't thin it out - only stirred the contents of the tin.

Things have progressed a bit since I posted originally. We've been in touch with Fired Earth who advised that the formulation of the paint hadn't changed so we should still be getting the same colour. But they did give the usual get out clause that the colour on the paint chip is a guide only and they can't guarantee it - not much help.

The supplier have offered a goodwill refund which is good of them in the circumstances, but still doesn't help us source the right colour of paint.

We've taken a bit of wood with the correct colour on it and had it colour matched at two different places - both times the computer came up with totally different colours.

We've also had a sample colour matched from the paint chip on the front a Fired Earth Carragheen tin - different colour again.

Also we've taken in various things that appear to colour match the paint when you hold it up against it - my purse, a scarf, even a teddy bear, but nothing so far has produced a colour we're happy with.

The colours we're getting are either too purple, too black, too brown or too pink. None of them have the rich berriness of the original Carragheen colour. Very frustrating! We've pretty much accepted we're not going to get the same colour so far getting a colour (with the right tone of plumminess rather than purpleness) is proving elusive and we're really not sure what to do next!

Go to Crown or Dulux and get a colour match done
