i'm installing 240v Fireguard 9w Energy Saving Downlights and want to know if I need firehoods in a single storey extension with roof space and insulation. Are metal fireboxes or firehoods more appropriate?

Any one know of a good supplier at a reasonable price?

You have fire rated fittings, why do you think you would need fire hoods also?
It's one or the other if they're going into a ceiling which breeches a fire barrier.

I just wanted to make sure that the place doesn't burn down. belt and braces etc. Thanks for you reply.

When they say Fire rated I asume they mean they are unlikely to get hot enough to cause a fire?

No, they resist spread of fire through the hole they're fitted into for a set duration. Check the box for that, JCC fittings we use are 90 mins.
A fire hood is designed to do the same.
