Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to ask if removing a fireplace is okay for a DIYer to take on?

I live in a bungalow, the fireplace extends into the loft a couple of feet, and then trunking extends to an outlet in the roof, I live in a semi, and this is the party wall!

Seems quite straightforward to me, just want to check and see if I am overlooking something?

I have attached some pictures, sorry but the loft Ines aren't great!

Thanks for taking a look!

Well , I wouldn't DIY it - there might be Party Wall agreement issues (as far as I know:unsure:) and the chimney is a prefab. cast block structure - so it "might" tie in with the one next door. More advice is needed.

When you say remove, do you mean block it up?

I assume it was just a gas fire so should be a simple matter of boarding over the opening.

If you mean open up the old fireplace, I suspect there isn't one.

Thanks Nige f great advice!

No I mean completely remove so I have a flat wall all along, Wessex 101!

Thanks!

Its a simple job for a DIY'er.

There's no "party wall issue" - none at all.

Starting on the roof with the pipe stack penetrating the roof take the metal hardwall flue piping down to the ceiling.
Then, from top down, slowly demolish the masonry chimney breast back to the inside corner of the two walls.
Any gas pipe or elec cable must be dealt with prior to demolition.
