In the kitchen I currently have floor covering over the original red quarry tiles laid in the 1930's. Is it possible to put new modern tiles directly onto the originals as I assume that it's easier to start with a nice level base.If so, I think that i painted the quarry tiles years ago so would I need to remove the paint for adhesion. Also what would be the best adhesive to use?

ive tiled over existing tiles in the past and the advice i had was to paint on PVA glue or UNibond (same stuff different bottles).

also i was told to remove or re-cement any of the old tiles which where lose or cracked.

i never had any problems with finished job!

I recommend scouring the paint off the tiles then making sure they are securely down

I used BAL FLEX Powder Adhesive , Brilliant stuff
