I have just got some work for a new collage. Now I am abit nervous as i don't know what to expect.

So I am just thinking of how fast should i be working at. If I mask off the top skirting boards will I be laughed at?

Any advice for a first time on site?

If you refer to applying masking tape prior to cutting in then i'm afraid that perhaps you will, and from then on speed will not become a factor.

Nar, I can cut in but I just dislike creating the nice straight line top of the skirting boards with gloss. I can do it just, if the gloss touches the wall abit. When you look down at the skirting boards you see bumps. I found that some skirting boards are fine as they are thick but some of the really hug the wall

It is a little bit risky but there are some chances of positive results.
Never give.

When I was 16, We were doing this huge empty building for the council and I did miles of skirtings by striking a line 9" up the wall then painting up to the line with blue gloss. I spent ages on my knees but I learned fast how to cut in.
I had to.

Don't think you should mask anything. You're a model to be laughed at. You will quickly learn how to cut into all different types, quickly without the masking anyway.

Madder is right there really is no substitute for the clean crisp line cut by a good brush in a skilled hand.
