Just bought a Fish Mate 8W uv bio filter for the pond. Thoroughly read the instructions only it seemed to have missed out one vital detail I am unsure about. What end do I place the pump and filter at? I am guessing the pump would go at the deep end and the filter to the shallow end but I would appreciate a confirmation of my 'guess'.

Thanks

Thanks breezer that was as clear as green water//oops I meant crytal clear water

If you're gonna put koi in your pond, never turn your filtration off. Come winter Do the opposite of what you should be doing. I.e. put your pump as close to the surface and your outlet as you can, this means just a bit of water gets circulated and stops the pond icing over totally. The fish will snooze in the "dead zone"
N.B. Cleared my filter and pump 2 days ago, got rid of the bloody frogs, can now see bottom of a 4' deep pond, water crystal clear.

shame on you scoby  , i must have about 200+ frogspawn just now and I think the things are great. Never seen a slug in my garden for years, surely gardners new best friend?

Thanks for the over wintering tip, I seem to remember breezer mentioning this a while back when I was convinced it (pond) would turn into a 2ft high block of ice in its first winter

I only have 5 goldfish at the mo but am considering something else once the filter has kicked in and cleaned it up a bit. Not Kio i dont think as I belive they are hard to keep, but I would like something extravagent, any suggestions most appreciated :)

to be honest, get a few more "goldfish" easy to keep no hassle, there are a lot of varietys in the "gold fish family" , but yes stay away from KOI carp, your pond is too small (judging by size of your UV filter)

The major problem with the frogs is that our collie loves to play with them, sometimes fatally. We end up with corpses everywhere.
The best was the other night when swmbo went into the front room and there was a big bugger sat in front of the fire watching corrie!
oh, and with all the frogs, we still have loads of slugs, snails. Must get a hedgehog (if the dog will leave it alone :P )

eew! I ran over one in the drive once and it made an awful projection, I can sympathise with you on this one. I would hate to find anthing like that in the house

Golfish it is then, only I got so little as a book I read said to not buy too many becuse they can multiply like crazy but they do not seem to be doing so, which is dissapointing
