Fitting a Combi DIY Style....?

Hi, hope you cann help me on this subject. Have had enough with problems and running costs from our ideal boiler and boilermate 2000. At the moment the boiler is in the kitchen and the gledhill 'thing' is in our airing cupboard. I am planning to fit a combi boiler in the loft leaving the gas side and possibly the flu to an expert. I am confident that I know what I am doing when it comes to the wet side of it but would definatly need a 'how to guide' to help me through certain steps...would these come with a boiler (i know wickes builders merchants do) would this be the case with known brands....valliant...bosch etc...?

It's really not that im trying to save money it's just i'd love to say I could do it. I have already planned out how I will go about getting the mains feed to the boiler + the gas (not that I will be doing it myself) + the hot water back down into the kitchen again.

Also how would i go about choosing the right boiler? I have a 2 bedroom house with 6 radiators 1 bathroom with thermostatic mira shower and 1 kitchen. Any recomendations? I'd love good pressure hot water having been used to mains pressure!! (sometimes!!!!)

Says it all really!

You want to remove an Ideal Classic/unvented cylinder and replace with a COMBI?.

Why?

because the hot water pressure keeps going due to the crappie boilermate being limed up, this is the one wityhout the removeable heat exchanger, would cost in the region of 1500 for just the boiler mate let alone replacing the 14 year old ideal gas burner and labour charges to boot

That's the pleasure of living with an unvented cylinder, when things need doing it's expensive, but a COMBI???????? with a boiler and a cylinder, you can have hot water all the time. When your combi breaks down, you won't have anything until it's fixed. Now you might want to glow after fitting it yourself, but you'll also glow (your ears will anyway) while you're getting it in the neck from the disgruntled ones.

Ha ha, I know what you mean, so what your saying is that I have a fairly good system and I really don't want to go away from it...so fitting another unvented system ie a new boiler mate would be a much better idea? I would be really dissapointed with the flow rate from the hot...is that the only drawback?

It does seem on this forum, and i'm honestly not having a dig but you or a lot of you are very anti combi boilers! YOU ARE THE EXPERTS I KNOW!! I think it would need me to spend a load of money changing from what i have to a combi before i realise how bad they really are...like I have read...designed for a flat!

We or shall i say Me is very anti-combi, there cheap unreliable rubbish.

However a "Boilermate" is worst, get an unvented cylinder installed and enjoy a proper system.

Is this something I can do myself or best left to a pro? What manufactures would you recomend?

no its not something you do yourself

megaflo seems to be the one to go with albion also do one tho

Megaflo is the best by far ( more royalties)

and don't go throwing your boiler away unless its busted.

as kev did say you need a ticket to fit them.
