hi can any1 help!!!

i wanted to put a spotlight bar in to my kitchen so as per the instructions in the new light i took off the old ceiling rose ,from which i had 3 red wires, 1 black and 1 green/yellow.i tried the 3 red wires with a neon screwdriver to see if all were live ( hope this was the correct thing to do ) out of them only 1 was live so i was advised by a family member to put the two non live red wires in with the black one on the block .
but now my problem is that i have power to the light but it will not switch off.
can anyone suggest what ive done wrong or how to fix this prob

much appreciated

First of all put that neon screwdriver in the bin and buy yourself a multimeter  .
I take it you only have 3 pieces of terminal block in the fitting (L N E)? The red you currently have connected to L sounds like the permanent live. This needs to be connected to one of the other reds (and to nothing else) in another piece of block. The last remaining red to the Live terminal in the lamp. Black to the neutral terminal. Earth to the earth terminal.

thanks alot for your help ,your advice has solved the problem.
isnt the internet a wonderful thing i never relised u could get this sort of help online
